Patterning of a Drying Emulsion Film

چکیده
Stabilizing layers of colloidal dispersions or emulsions to obtain homogeneous films is a real challenge. We describe here new kind instability in drying emulsions: during evaporation the internal phase, cracks appear between droplets that create aggregates according regular pattern. show this pattern only appears if emulsion adhesive, i.e., stick together. The exhibits characteristic length which depends on adhesion strength and film thickness. These experimental results support model where due gel structure elastic properties adhesive emulsions. Understanding phenomenon will allow us get control it structured materials.

Drying of Emulsion Adhesives
Maximizing lines speeds on coating/drying equipment is an obvious approach to improving manufacturing economics. Insufficient dryer capacity is often an impediment to taking advantage of the mechanical speed limit for an existing line, but adding additional dryer capacity can be prohibitive due to return on investment and/or space limitations. Optimizing oven settings becomes a critical path to...
متن کاملDewetting Patterns in a Drying Liquid Film.
Failure of a liquid coating to remain continuous on a substrate that exhibits a significant equilibrium contact angle is a common occurrence in industrial applications. The term "reticulation" is sometimes used to describe the resulting formation of a pattern of defects. The failure may take the form of coating perforations and dewetting, and it may ultimately lead to a set of isolated drops. W...
متن کاملPhotolithography‐Compatible Templated Patterning of Functional Organic Materials in Emulsion
A solution-processed patterning of functional organic materials in emulsion is reported. The concept is to absorb microdrops onto predefined locations by hydrophilicity difference. Owing to a universal solvent used, the method can be applied to pattern variety materials on substrates of interest over large size. The figure shows Rhodamine 6G patterned film.
متن کاملDrying Simulation of Nanoparticle Suspension Film on Substrate
Drying simulations of nanoparticle suspension films on a substrate are carried out by a threedimensional simulator developed. The motion of nanoparticles in the suspension films is modeled by Langevin equation, in which forces exerted on each nanoparticle consist of contact force, capillary force, Brownian force, van der Waals force, electrostatic force and fluid drag force. The drying of suspe...
متن کاملMultiple emulsion stability: pressure balance and interfacial film strength.
The objective of this study was to investigate the significance of inner and outer phase pressure, as well as interfacial film strength on W/O/W multiple emulsion stability using microscopy and long-term stability tests. It was observed that immediately upon applying a coverslip to samples the multiple droplets deformed and there was coalescence of the inner aqueous droplets. Under certain cond...
